INTRODUCTION

Understanding the tradition and its context.

Ancient Egyptian religion included many gods and goddesses connected with nature, kingship, life, death, and the cosmic order called maat. Deities could appear in human, animal, or composite forms, and their roles could shift or overlap according to city and period.

Ra, Isis, Osiris, Horus, and Anubis are among the best-known figures. Egyptian traditions also include Amun, Hathor, Thoth, Ma’at, Sekhmet, Bastet, Ptah, Sobek, Seth, Nephthys, and many others.

Opening invocation for Egyptian Gods and Goddesses

Ra, Isis, Osiris, Horus, Anubis, and the netjeru associated with the balance of life, receive this as an expression of learning. May we seek maat through honesty, care, and actions that sustain balance between people and the natural world.

A contemporary invocation written for Parahyang; not an ancient quotation or reconstruction.
