Creating a Simple Personal Altar

A personal altar can serve as a place for remembrance, reflection, prayer, or marking a commitment. Its contents should reflect the meaning understood by its keeper and the guidance of the tradition they follow, rather than a list of objects assumed to be universal requirements.

Begin with a clean and safe space. Consider symbolic objects, photographs or texts, a vessel of water, and an electric candle when an open flame is unsafe or not permitted. Keep flames, incense, and liquids away from children, animals, and flammable materials.
